Alexsandre Imai

Alexandre Imai is a contemporary artist born in Paris in 1959. The son of renowned Informel painter Toshimitsu Imai and an Austrian mother, he built his career across France, Japan, and the UK.

His father, Toshimitsu Imai, played a key role in introducing the Art Informel movement to Japan and was known for blending Western abstract expression with traditional Japanese aesthetics.

Alexandre Imai has inherited this artistic legacy, creating his own unique world of “splash painting” that fuses Parisian Informel influences with elements of Japanese tradition. His work spans a wide range of styles—combining boldness and delicacy, elegance and energy—with occasional nods to pop art through rough, expressive strokes.

Among his many achievements, his monumental piece Flying Dragon (20m x 12m), displayed in the atrium of Ginza Matsuya, stands out as a testament to his talent in large-scale and live painting. Some of his works have been valued at over 300 million yen, earning him increasing attention on the international art stage.
